PeachCare for Kids is available for children up to the age of 18 who life in households with incomes below 235% the poverty level and whom do not qualify for Medicaid. It is one of the programs brought about by the Title XXI of the Social Security Act.
The legislation gave states the opportunity to create programs to increase access to affordable insurance. In this case, the Georgia health care program is PeachCare for Kids. About 190,000 children are eligible for this Georgia health care program as long as they are U.S. citizens, refugees or qualified legal residents, uninsured and do not qualify for Medicaid. If children are eligible for the Georgia health program, Medicaid, then PeachCare will forward their applications to Medicaid to be enrolled. There are many benefits for children under this Georgia health program that include dental care, vision care, hospitalization, emergency room services, prescription medications, mental health care, specialist care and of course care from a doctor when the child is sick, along with preventative services like check-ups and immunizations. This Georgia health care plan is a great service for kids, especially because it is so cheap. The cost for this Georgia health care program is free for children under six years of age, but the cost can range from $10 to $35 for one child, and a maximum cost of $70 for two or more children living in the same household. This Georgia health service is drastically cheaper than most Georgia health care plans and is really beneficial to families with low incomes. The only children who can’t receive the Georgia health care program, PeachCare for Kids, are children of state employees. Anyone with access to Georgia health benefits is excluded, except children of part-time and temporary employees who aren’t eligible for a Georgia health benefit plan. Children must also be uninsured for the six months prior to applying for PeachCare. There actually are exceptions for children who have lost coverage involuntarily and the waiting period doesn’t apply to families who independently purchase private insurance.
This Georgia health care program is a great way for lower income families to insure their children.
